Each day we’ll be featuring a player who is one to watch throughout the December Showdown and into the Australian summer. Today it’s Seone Mendez, who’ll debut in the Australian Open Play-off from tomorrow.

Seone Mendez joined Kimberly Birrell and Destanee Aiava in representing Australia at 2014’s Junior Fed Cup final, and, currently verging on the world’s junior top 30, compiled an impressive 30-12 record at ITF events.

Former world No.42 Scott Draper points to an “unbelievable” talent with great footwork whose professionalism – from training to diet – he believes is first class.

“She’s doing everything right,” he says. “If she doesn’t get there, it’s because she was never meant to get there.”

Mendez will be one of the youngest competitors in the Australian Open Play-off women’s field, and will commence her campaign on Tuesday.

At only 15, Seone Mendez is slowly but surely reaching new heights towards becoming one of Australia’s and the world’s youngest tennis superstars.

The young athlete, who is being sponsored by JC Travel Professionals, is set to cap a very solid year, reaching the Top 3 Juniors and now with a worldwide rank of 33rd in the U/18 Category.

In addition, Seone has been nominated for the second year in a row as a Finalist at the John Newcombe Medal in the Category of Junior Female Tennis Athlete of the year.

Freddy Mikhael, Managing Director of JC Travel, says: “We have been closely following Seone’s progress this year and are very impressed with her performance and determination to get better and better, as well as reach new milestones in every game”.

Seone started the year with 176.25 points and ranked 215th. Currently, she is sitting on 575 points and although she has moved up significantly to 33rd place worldwide in her category, she is not letting up and aiming to move further up.

With four more events to play before 2014 closes, Seone could be finishing the year inside the top 20 ITF Junior rankings.

As of blog time, Seone is qualifying for her first 10k ITF event of the year in Vinaroz, Spain. The team at JC Travel wish her all the luck and believe she can make it!
